Cherry Blossom Season at Brooklyn Botanic Garden

Cherry blossom
Pretty in pink!  This past weekend marked the start of Hanami at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens.  Hanami is the Japanese tradition of enjoying the beauty of cherry blossoms.

Last year, we took these photos - but wanted to share them with you as a reminder to take advantage of the warm weather and check out these beautiful blooms.  The gardens are a wonderful place to enjoy a leisurely walk and afternoon picnic.

Because the cherry blossoms bloom at different times throughout the month, you can check out the Brooklyn Botanic Garden CherryWatch blossom map for up-to-date status views of the park's cherry blossoms (http://www.bbg.org/exp/cherries/map.html).

Hanami runs until May 2nd, culminating in Sakura Matsuri (a weekend celebrating Japanese culture).  For directions, hours, and admission costs, check out the Brooklyn Botanic Garden online.  The garden is closed on Mondays but free on Tuesdays.

  5. These photos took my breath away, they are stunning! Oh I'd love to have one on my wall (though I guess having my breath taken away constantly may be a health hazard)

  6. So pretty! We were going to visit NYC during our spring break but had to cancel cause my daughter was sick :(

  7. This is a beautiful and breathtaking sight! I'm going to have to try to make it before Spring is over.

  8. I saw a cherry blossom by school and thought, I really need to go to the botanical gardens now. With these pics, I am making it a priority.
